Sword Scriptures

If you are just starting to use your Bible, You may need help finding Sword Scriptures that you can use in your personal prayer life, and in praying with others or for others in intercession. Naturally, as you study and become familiar with your Bible You will want to memorize and prepare many of your favourite passages. But here are some starting points for you.

For good practice, choose one or two of these Bible passages and write out a written prayer, using the main points and themes in the passage, and also quoting it directly. This will help you to start thinking of God's Word as your spiritual Sword.

Another step is to copy about ten or more promises from God's Word onto small cards that you can carry with you and review often, until you have them memorized and internalized. After that they will come to mind quickly when you need them.

Now here are more Sword Scriptures that you can study and learn to use in your praying.

Sword Scriptures

Promises

James 1:5; I John 5:14,15; Philippians 4:19; Matthew 7:7-11; John 14:27; 2 Chronicles 7:14; Jeremiah 29:12-13. (Memorize them and ask for them often in your prayers).

Personal Needs

Matthew 6:11; John 15:11-16; Galatians 5:22-23; 1 John 1:9; James 1:5 (Again, memorize these!).

Praise and Adoration

There are many, many Psalms that have beautiful passages of praise and worship to God. Find your favourites and use them as worship cues, or words you can use directly in your prayers of worship and praise to God. The more you look, the more you will find! Of course, other parts of the Bible can be used for worship and praise too.

Thanskgiving

The same instruction applies, but here are a few examples, Psalm 105:1; I Corinthians 1:4-9; I Corinthians 15:57; Philippians 1:3-6; Philippians 4:4-6; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18; Colossians 1:11-12.

Christian Conduct

Make these Biblical promises to God, and ask Him to help you keep your promises. Mark 16:15; 2 Corinthians 5:20; Philippians 4:4-6, 8; Colossians 3:17-24; I Thessalonians 5:11-22 (verse by verse); 2 Timothy 2:24; 2 Timothy 3:11-15; Titus 3:9; James 1:21; 1 John 2:15-17.

Intercession

In these verses are some principles to interceding for others. Study the prayers of these Bible intercessors, Abraham in Genesis 18:23-33; Daniel in Daniel 9:3-17; Paul in Romans 10:1, Ephesians 1:16-23, also 3:14-21, Colossian 1:9-12, and 1 Thessalonians 5:11-22.

Special Prayers

There are some special prayers in the Bible that we can personalize for ourselves or those we are praying for. Study them until they become your own sword Scriptures. Psalm 23, 1 Corinthians 13, Matthew 6:5-15, and Romans 1:14-17.
